Periodontics: Taking Care of Your Gum Health
Your gums are an essential part of your oral health, and taking care of them is crucial to maintaining a beautiful smile and overall well-being. Periodontics, a specialized branch of dentistry, focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum diseases and the surrounding structures that support your teeth.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is caused by the build-up of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, on the teeth, which can lead to inflammation and infection of the gums. If left untreated, gum disease can progress, resulting in tooth loss and even bone loss in severe cases.
Cosmetic periodontal procedures, such as dental implants, are a wonderful option for those who have experienced tooth loss. Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone, providing a sturdy foundation for replacement teeth. With advances in technology, dental implants look and function like natural teeth, giving you a confident smile and improved chewing ability.
At Colorado Gum Care, we pride ourselves on our state-of-the-art technology and commitment to excellent patient care. Our team of board-certified periodontists utilizes advanced treatments and techniques, including digital x-rays and same-day appointments, to provide you with the highest level of dental care.
When you visit our dental office, you can expect a thorough dental exam and evaluation of your gum health. Our compassionate staff will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. This plan may include professional cleanings, preventative care, and if necessary, periodontal procedures to restore and maintain the health of your gums.

How Do I Know If I Need A Periodontist?
If you’re experiencing any issues with your gums or have concerns about your oral health, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a periodontist. A periodontist is a specialized dental professional who focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing gum diseases and conditions that affect the supporting structures of your teeth.
One of the most common signs that you may need a periodontist is if you notice any changes in your gums. Healthy gums should be pink, firm, and fit snugly around your teeth. However, if your gums are red, swollen, or bleed easily, these could be warning signs of gum disease. Other symptoms to watch out for include persistent bad breath, receding gums, loose teeth, or a change in the way your bite feels.
Another reason to see a periodontist is if you have experienced tooth loss or need to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are a fantastic option for restoring your smile and function. They are durable, natural-looking, and provide a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. A periodontist can evaluate your specific situation and determine if dental implants are the right choice for you.
