Welcome to Our Practice

Dr. Mark Wheeler founded Colorado Gum Care in 1986. Before opening the practice, he completed four years as a periodontist in the United States Army stationed in Landstuhl, Germany. He came to Broomfield and built a practice from the ground up.

At the time, patients in North Denver had limited options for specialist periodontal care. Dr. Wheeler changed that. Patients who came in the early years now bring their adult children. Referring dentists who started working with him decades ago still send patients today.

Matthew A. Johanson, DMD, MS

Dr. Matthew A. Johanson received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry magna cum laude from Middlebury College and received his dental education at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine.

During his dental education at UCDM, Dr. Johanson was the recipient of the Opinsky Scholarship for academic achievement, the Listerine Award of Excellence for outstanding research relating to Periodontology, and the AAP Dental Student Award for achievement in Periodontology. Dr. Johanson completed his specialty training and received his Master’s Degree in Periodontics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dr. Johanson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Johanson has been selected by 5280 Magazine as a Top Periodontist. Dr. Johanson has speciality training in Dental Implants, Periodontal Plastic Surgery, Advanced Bone Grafting, Full Mouth Rehabilitation, Dental Laser Therapy, IV Sedation, as well as Periodontal Disease Treatment.

In his free time, he enjoys skiing, biking, and running, Dr. Johanson also has two young children who keep him energized! Dr. Johanson lives in Denver with his wife Heidi, a physician at The Children’s Hospital.

Tyler D. Borg, DDS, MS

Dr. Tyler D. Borg, a Westminster native, graduated from Xavier University before attending the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine where he served as Class and Student Body President. While at The University of Colorado, Dr. Borg was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology Award, The American Academy of Implant Dentistry Award, The Academy of Osseointegration Award, The Colorado Dental Association Student Excellence Award, and also completed research on Dental Implants.

Dr. Borg completed his specialty training in Periodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and received a Master’s Degree in Dental Science. At The University of Texas, Dr. Borg conducted clinical research in bone grafting and dental implants. Dr. Borg is the recipient of the John F. Prichard Award for excellence in clinical research from the Southwest Society of Periodontists as well as the Kenneth D. Rudd Award for completion of over 100 hours of continuing education annually. Dr. Borg is the recipient of the Maria Yueng Research Award from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and also the AAP Foundation Robert S. Schoor Award.  Dr. Borg is also the recipient of a Special Citation Award from the American Academy of Periodontology.  

Dr. Borg has been voted as a 5280 Magazine Top Periodontist for 10 years in a row.

Mark A. Wheeler, DMD

Dr. Mark A. Wheeler graduated from Wake Forest University before attending Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry. After completing his specialty training in Periodontics, Dr. Wheeler served four years in the United States Army in Landstuhl, Germany.

Dr. Wheeler is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Wheeler is a member of the American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, World Clinical Laser Institute, and the International Team for Implantology. Dr. Wheeler has been selected by 5280 Magazine as a Top Periodontist in Denver every year since 2009.

Dr. Wheeler founded Colorado Gum Care in 1986. Dr. Wheeler and his wife, Mary, have lived in Denver for 25 years. They have two daughters. In their free time, Dr. Wheeler and his wife enjoy golf and traveling.

Dr. Anthony C. Rademacher, DMD, MSD

Dr. Anthony C. Rademacher, originally from Holland, Michigan, earned his Bachelor of Science in Genomics and Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine, complete a residency in Graduate Periodontics, and earn a Master of Science in Dentistry from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. His thesis focused on implant site development using various bone grafting and ridge augmentation techniques. He was also awarded the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics.

Dr. Rademacher is a board-certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is certified in periodontology and dental implant surgery and is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Board of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, and the American and Colorado Dental Associations. He has been recognized as a Top Periodontist by 5280 Magazine.

In practice since 2018, Dr. Rademacher provides exceptional patient care, conducts clinical research on regenerative materials and dental implants, and is active in local dental study clubs. He currently serves on the boards of both the Boulder/Broomfield Dental Society and the Colorado Dental Association. He enjoys all aspects of periodontal surgery, emphasizes patient education, and serves as a trusted resource for referring dentists in the area.

Katelyn Fleming, DMD, MSD

Dr. Katelyn Fleming is originally from East Tennessee. She earned her Bachelor of
Science in Biology at East Tennessee State University before moving to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, earning both her Doctor of Dental Medicine and completing a residency in Graduate Periodontics with a Master of Science in Dentistry.

Dr. Fleming is a board-certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Her specialty training includes dental implants, soft tissue augmentation, advanced bone grafting, dental laser therapy, and IV sedation. She is also certified through the American Academy of Facial Esthetics for botulinum toxin and dermal filler treatment.

Dr. Fleming continues her education through involvement with local study clubs and is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Colorado Dental Association, and serves on the continuing education board for the Metro Denver Dental Society. She is also a member of the Energy Leadership Group through the MDDS Professional Development & Coaching Group. She has been selected by 5280 Magazine as a Top Periodontist.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Fleming is a University of Tennessee Volunteers fan and her favorite hobby is watching any UT sport, especially football. She also enjoys spending time outside through hiking, biking, and camping with her fiancé, Collin, and their two dogs, Creed and Julep. You can also find her playing sand volleyball at the Oasis or the Island most nights.
